A hip replacement is the common surgery that takes place to add an artificial joint when the current one is damaged. The hip joint is one of the largest joints in the body and plays a key role in supporting the upper body particularly through movement.
London Hip Specialists offers comprehensive Hip Replacement assessments and treatment options to provide each patient with the service that best suits their lifestyle and needs.
Damage to the hips can cause persistent pain and discomfort when carrying out every day activities like walking or driving, it can also limit the movement and ability to be independent, especially for older adults.
Common causes that result in damage to the hip joint include:
-Osteoarthritis, this is when the cartilage inside the hip joint is worn away through wear and tear causing the bones to run against each other.
-Rheumatoid Arthritis, this is when the body’s immune system will try to fight an infection and mistakenly attack the lining of the joint.
-Hip Fracture, this can take place after a fall or accident where the hip joint is required to be replaced
Hip replacement surgery aims to relieve pain and improve lasting function and movement in the hip joint. Your consultant will decide with you the most suitable form of treatment and recommend rehabilitation and physiotherapy options. Benefits of surgery include greatly improved quality of life and the ability to enjoy pain free movement and often no need for a stick or support when walking.

Rowena talks of her positive experience with Mr Marston and reflects on his calming approach and not at any point feeling rushed, always able to answer and fully explain any questions that she had. In particular Rowena was impressed with being able to walk on the same day after her operation and the accuracy of her recovery plan that was designed by Mr Marston.
